Mezco Toyz send us this press release concerning the Hellboy line that we recently showed you as part of our 2004 Preview... Mezco Toyz is proud to announce its upcoming line of Hellboy action figures based on the upcoming action-hero film HELLBOY. Mezco has been granted the toy and action figure license by Revolution Studios.
Hellboy, a supernatural action-adventure film, is based on Mike Mignola's popular comic book series of the same name. Born in the flames of hell and brought to Earth to perpetrate evil, Hellboy (Ron Perlman) was rescued from sinister forces by the benevolent Dr. Broom (John Hurt), who raised him to be a hero. In Dr. Broom's secret Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense, Hellboy creates an unlikely family consisting of the telepathic "Mer-Man" Abe Sapien (Doug Jones) and Liz Sherman (Selma Blair), the woman he loves who can control fire. Hidden from the very society that they protect, they stand as the key line of defense against an evil madman who seeks to reclaim Hellboy to the dark side and use his powers to destroy mankind. Hellboy is due to release in April 2004
Hellboy features an outstanding ensemble cast including Ron Perlman, Selma Blair, John Hurt, Jeffrey Tambor, Karel Roden, Victoria Smurfit, Rupert Evans and Doug Jones, and is produced by Larry Gordon, Mike Richardson of Dark Horse Comics, and Lloyd Levin. The Hellboy character will be brought to life by six-time Academy Award® winner Rick Baker (How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Men in Black, An American Werewolf in London) and his acclaimed Cinovation Studios. The other amazing characters are designed and created by Spectral Motion (Blade 2, Men in Black 2, A.I. Artificial Intelligence).
Mezco Toyz’ Hellboy lineup will start with a series of five 8 inch scale hyper-detailed figures, done only as Mezco can. The set will include the heroic Hellboy, and Abe Sapian, as well as the villainous Kroenen, Sammael, and Rasputin. Each figure will feature 18-22 mind-boggling points of articulation.
Also included is an 18 inch DELUXE Hellboy rotocast figure that will feature the same innovative detail that Mezco made famous with its other rotocast lines
Hellboy will also be immortalized as part of Mezco's increasingly popular pocket size Mez-Itz line with figures of Hellboy, Kronen, Sammael, Abe, and Rasputin, each packaged in blister-carded two-packs. Mez-Itz may be small but they have attitude! The entire Hellboy line will blast into stores in early 2004.
