Our friends over at Art Asylum send us this sneak peak at one of their figures from their upcoming JLA line of Minimates due out next year...
OK, so we've not been allowed to officially say anything, but if you've read ToyFare then you already know: Art Asylum are to produce Batman and JLA Minimates. We'll get the official word on the Batman minimates sometime in the future, but for now, we can show you one of the JLA Minimates: Wonder Woman.
Now, you've got a long wait for this figure...we're talking some 6 months, as it's not out until Summer 2004...but I'm very excited and here's why.
You'll hear older collectors go on about their love for the Mego line, and whilst it isn't the only reason, one of the main reasons was to do with scale. If you're a comics fan, you really want to have some sort of Marvel Vs DC crossover. Trouble is, for years now, different companies have got DC and Marvel licenses, and even if they are a similar height, they don't just seem to gel.
Well finally, the 'minimates' line has done that . You're gonna get DC and Marvel figures that are in-scale and have an identical scale. Whilst the DC line appears to be much more kid-orientated (trying to compete in the construction block marketplace) the important thing is that they're relatively cheap, they're not gonna take up a whole lot of space, and they'll go with your Marvel collection. Plus, already they've proved that secondary characters are defintely getting a look in.
Whilst reviews haven't gone up yet, I have been fairly busy picking up a lot of the Marvel Minimates (although I'm probably gonna bug Art Asylum's partner on the DC Minimates - Diamond - for some of the ones I am missing). With further Marvel Minimates coming down the line, if you've not picked these sets up, I suggest you do so, or in a year's time you are going to regret it. I think for many of you, your Hush or Marvel Legends lines are going to be core, but I think if you're a comics fan the minimates figures you should be a secondary line you pick up.
Anyways, enjoy the sneak peak of the JLA Wonder Woman figure, and watch for more news in the coming months.

Further to the info that Adrian posted, it's important to note that these DC minimates are only going to be sold packaged with construction-type stuff (eg. batmobile, batcave etc). They are not going to be offered individually and in 2-packs like the Marvel line.
I really don't understand why AA aren't letting you report all of the fact yet Adrian. Practically every other site has the info, and it's been in ToyFare. Are AA pissed off at you or something?
