Man! Where the hell are we going to get our toys here in the U.S. while avoiding Wal-Mart!? If KB was only able to cut expenses in a way that would have made it's products cheaper instead of closing stores it would've been great. Holy cow. As collectors we should start getting REALLY worried! |

I hafta say that Wal-mart is fine by me. As soon as TRU and KB start getting in shipments of new toys, fine... locally, they get NOTHING. Wal-mart has all of the new toys a month or so before other shops, and they're cheaper. TRU and KB could do better. They can work on getting shipments on time, and KB could afford to lower prices a LOT. If that's evil, praise satan. |

No it is not our fault. It's the fault of the f'n mall managers jacking the rent through the roof. That's the exact reason the one in the local mall closed at the beginning of 2003. The broad in charge of the mall decided to jack the rent when it came time to renew the lease. Same thing with Disc Jockey. And she just flat out kicked Spencer's out of the mall. All in favor of more clothing & shoe shops. But I digress... Wal-Mart has nothing to do with this situation. And as for them "coming in, killing all the local stores & then running away" then explain why there's been a Wal-Mart in my town for over 20 years. You'd think that they would have "killed the other stores" & left already, wouldn't you? I'm really ticked that KB is having problems because I have gotten good deals in the past at the stores. But they hardly ever have anything new. Wal-Mart isn't a perfect company, but then again who is? You won't find one. They all have skeletons in their closets. |

*sigh* I do not understand why they would close the Everett, WA store when there are TWO in Lynnwood, a toyworks just up the street from a regular KB. But tis life I suppose. Guess I'll have to drive all the way to Lynnwood. |

The fact of the matter is that KB and Toys 'R' Us have horrible business models. Toys 'R' Us has too much unpopular inventory and the stores are too big. KB was too small of a store and had lots of outdated toy franchises. Honestly, KB was very, very expensive. Toys R Us is not that expensive but their selection is horrible. The problem with comic book shop is that, although they recieve fresh products all the time, they don't seem to restock popular items in a timely manner. I don't know where some of you live that have that much variety of stores to go to or too much time on your hands to take field trips around town to look for an articulated piece of plastic but some of us have jobs, families and lives (I'm not saying that the rest of you don't). Some of us are not willing or able of searching for a damned figure in four different stores everyday for a month and still be able to get on with our lives. You know when I was able to do that? On my freshman year of college when I was still living with my parents. Soon after I moved out and started to earn my living making toy hunting a little bit difficult. Toy companies in general should feel flattered that grown men with dispossable income would go out of their ways and ignore social stigmas in order to shell out our hard earned money on their sculped pieces of plastic that, let's face it, in the real world they have NO value whatsoever. They should be able to cater to US better by offering lower prices and more effective distribution methods. This goes to toy companies like Mattel and distributors like KB and TRU. If you agree with me, I appreciate it, I had to write or my head would have exploded all over my cubicle. We just can't be too apologetic with a distributor or a manufacturer because in the end we are the customers and what these bastards don't understand is that THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT!!! |

| WalMart is fine but if they get something in quick it is usually only one case and then they're not back on shelves for 2 months (ie Marvel Legends). KB is a little higher priced but if its something you're dying to have you dont mind paying a couple extra bucks (at least i dont) |

Ok. I do happen to see the point of view from both sides. Quite a few of the things walmart is doing would have sam Walton rolling over in his grave. As they put the mom and pop stores out to pasture due to the sheer buying power they have. Every company has its skeletons. Kb toys is losing steam due to the company not listening to it's employees and watching the competition. As many of you I enjoy KB as they have quite a few toys for collectors and kids. The only problem is their prices. These companies are failing also due to the new cropping of online stores which make it cheaper and convienent to shop. If you do have a family, or don't have time to toy hunt this is the best way to go. I have no time to shop from store to store as they don't cater to the collectors too much, but hey it's a toy store it's for children! Anyway, It's a shame these stores will go the way of the dinosaur due to mismanagement by the company heads. This isn't the first and won't be the last. Tru is next , but I had worked for them during college and they get what they deserve due to the way they treat their employees and customers, and the same 3 things that have brought KB to its knees. With the loss of these two retail giants, and FAO this doesn't spell doom for toy buyers old and young, but new openings for companies to change if they want to survive. Possibly making it time for new toy retailers. Maybe now they might begin to take toy buyers a little more seriously in the near future. |

Its pathetic that the Sheeple just follow their instincts and just follow. Wake up and smell the unemployment line! Wal Mart will hurt something and someone you know. Once you see that stare at your figure at see if it was really worth saving a few cents. |
