We rumored them to you last year but Hasbro showed off the new vintage figures at their US ToyFair showroom this year, as well as additions to the basic line...
Ever since the classic Star Wars trilogy burst onto the screen in 1977, a new generation of movie and toy fans has continued the tradition of celebrating the past, present and future of the Star Wars universe. In 2004, Hasbro builds on the tradition with the Original Trilogy Collection of authentically detailed figures, vehicles and lightsabers, this time celebrating Lucasfilm’s fall release of the Star Wars Trilogy on DVD.
Hasbro’s Original Trilogy Collection will recapture the magic of the first three Star Wars film releases from the late 70s and early 80s for a new generation of kids, bringing back the memorable black-and-silver retro package look and collectible new versions of the earliest Star Wars toys. In addition to updated action figure versions of the most favorite characters from the first three films, Hasbro is bringing back one of the most legendary spaceships in the galaxy -- available for the first time since 1996 will be the Millennium Falcon.
Hasbro Star Wars lightsabers defined the role-play category and remain among the best-selling Star Wars items. The crash-and-bash fun continues in 2004 with several basic and electronic lightsabers based on both Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones and the Star Wars Trilogy.
Following is Hasbro’s line-up of Star Wars products in 2004 (all Hasbro Star Wars products are recommended for ages 4+, unless otherwise noted):
MILLENNIUM FALCON VEHICLE
(Approximate retail price: $59.99) Make the jump into hyperspace with the coolest starship of all time! The Millennium Falcon has flown in the biggest battles and most exciting adventures the galaxy has ever known. Take control of this legendary ship to combat DARTH VADER’S TIE FIGHTER, help defeat the Empire and fight alongside the heroes of the Rebellion. Available for the first time since 1996, the Millennium Falcon has been upgraded with new light-up tail lights that change color based on the flying mode, new hyperdrive sounds and lights, and authentic engine start-up and cruise sounds! It also features a new front missile, turbo “laser” cannon sounds and lights, working headlights for the toughest space battles, and it fits lots of figures. Availability is the fall.
STAR WARS BASIC FIGURES
(Approximate Retail Price: $4.99) The focus of the basic figure collection will be the favorite characters from the Star Wars Trilogy DVD collection, including R2-D2, Han Solo, Darth Vader, Chewbacca, Princess Leia and three versions of Luke Skywalker, among others.
ELECTRONIC LIGHTSABERS
(Approximate retail price: $19.99) The Force is strong with five authentic ELECTRONIC LIGHTSABERS of the key Star Wars heroes and villains. Each lightsaber has a light-up extendable blade and authentic movie sounds for all the classic crash-and-bash action and allows kids to play out their own Star Wars fantasies. Highlights include two lightsabers as part of the Original Trilogy Collection in the fall, featuring handle designs based on the lightsabers of LUKE SKYWALKER and DARTH VADER. The Original Trilogy Collection will be available in the fall; all other electronic lightsabers are available now.
BASIC LIGHTSABERS
(Approximate retail price: $6.99) For more Jedi Knight lightsaber action, the original BASIC LIGHTSABER is available in four colors (red, blue, green and purple), each with an extendable blade and two different handle styles. There are six basic lightsabers available now. More will be available in the fall as part of the Original Trilogy celebration in the special retro-styled packaging.
VINTAGE 3-3/4 and 12-INCH FIGURES
(Approximate retail price: $9.99 & $29.99) Hasbro captures the excitement of the original Star Wars action figure line with its vintage figure collection that includes modern versions of popular characters presented in packaging featuring the original artwork from Kenner’s Star Wars line. The 3-3/4-inch segment features 12 figures such as Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Han Solo and Darth Vader, among others. The 12-inch line will include three figures – Luke Skywalker, a Stormtrooper and Boba Fett.
Other items in the 2004 Hasbro Star Wars line include:
Ultra figures: ARP $9.99; Available only in the spring.
“UNLEASHED” 7” collector figures: ARP – $14.99; Available in October
ASK YODA: ARP $19.99; Available September
3-3/4” X-wing Fighter and TIE Fighter: ARP $19.99 each; Available in the fall.
Editor's Note: The question I know you'll all gonna have is which figures shown below are the Basic figures and which are the vintage. Well in truth, I'm not 100% sure. If you look at the pictures you'll see two ANH Han Solos and two Luke Tatooines. The more detailed and articulated ones are the Vintage figures. At a later date I might try and go through these and seperate them out, but for the moment, you'll have to do this by comparing photos yourself.

Why is Hasbro giving us that big rifle with the Stormtrooper? We need the smaller type of blaster that came with the 1995 POTF2 Stormtrooper. Would be great if they packed in two of those and maybe a new to scale mouse droid. With this rifle i will never armybuild these.

All I have to say is WOW! I haven't picked up much Star Wars stuff since the abortion that was Episode II. That movie just killed it for me. But this new line of vintage figures... I 'm going to have to pick these up. They look like what I always wanted Star Wars figures to look like! Someone over at Hasbro has woken up and smelled the espresso!

that vintage articulated Han Solo is the Solo figure I've been waiting for, for the past 22 years, since I was given my first Star Wars figure at the age of 6!! He looks awesome, not only because of the articulation, but the sculpt looks very nice, as does Luke and Obi-Wan. This is what I thought the 1995 figures would look like,.
I stopped collecting this line ages ago,but looks like it may start again!
