Ohhhh...the teaaaasers!! Have you been keeping score? First Bison, then Sagat. This will be number three of five. Not many more to go...


Presenting...an American fighter a little too obsessed with Japanese culture. A common joke in the Street Fighter game is this fighter's horrible Japanese, generally mucking up what he meant to say entirely. Wellcome SODOM to the ring!

Here's what we know so far...
The lineup
Ryu
Chun Li
Sodom
SAGAT
BISON

Articulation: Ball jointed neck, ball shoulders with swivel below (Marvel legends style), elbow hinges, wrist swivels, waist swivel, torso bend, ball hips with swivel (again ML style), double knees, ball ankles and mid-foot hinge.

Scale: The fighters will start right around Marvel Legends scale. Ryu and Chun Li will be around the same height. Then Bison and Sodom menace over them. You'd think that was enough. Since Sagat is the biggest fighter in the game, he's also the biggest fighter in the line, larger than Bison even in a slight crouch.

Style: The sculpts were modeled after a combination of the classic Street Fighter art and the new school designs by Udon from the popular Image comic.

Accessories: SOTA is not ready to give it all away yet, but here is what you can expect in the package with your fighter. You'll see variant heads and hands in this line, and "special" parts, like a clear blue hand for Bison. It's also been revealed that Ryu will come with his duffle bag! It's the little details SOTA is focusing on...and might I add the little details you've asked for on our message board. SOTA LISTENS!! Be sure to take full advantage of the comments right under this article and give some intelligent feedback on what is sure to me an amazing line. Last week, people commented that Sagat should not have a pupil in his eye. Done. Gone. Just an oversight and easily fixed. This is your line, so make sure your involved in how it goes down.

UPDATE: Just wanted to clarify one small detail. SOTA has a total Street Fighter license. This does NOT include characters owned by other companies. It does, however, include the crossovers from Final Fight like Hugo, Sodom, Cody, etc.

This line is looking great so far. I have all the Resaurus SF figures minus the SF3 guys and I'll be glad to buy them all again if I can get the original cast from SF2 meaning the 8 characters + 4 bosses. I think that is a pretty important goal to get those 12 guys by the 4th - 5th wave. If it takes longer than the 4th wave I think alot of fans might get worried cause its pretty tough for lines to make it to that many waves nowaday. Especially specialty retailer lines like this line looks to be at the $12.99 price point. At that point you can start doing another version of Ryu and Ken be it SFA style or SF3 or even other colors.

Also I think that the Player 1/Player 2 stuff hurt the Resaurus line and should be avoided, the colors were evenly packed 1 each and just take a look at eBay for some of the more popular figures like Sagat and Akuma, the P1 version usually goes for a good amount more. I remember finding P2 version of Blanka and Ken and saying I'll just wait till I find the P1 version. If you have to do another color as a chase or something as a retailer incentive, do it like McFarlane does with his Sportpicks and make 1 random guy per case his Player 2 color. If there has to be other colors, I think that's the best way to do it, cause most people will want the regular color anyways, and it'll still create some buzz without it getting out of hand.

The lineup for series 1 looks great I hope SOTA doesn't go overboard with the obsure guys. I mean I'll probably get Sodom, but again to bring up Resaurus, they just went overboard with with 2 obsure characters in wave 2 with Remy and Necro, of course they had 6 characters per wave, but when a 1/3 of characters (and 1/3 of the case) are characters who no one's heard of that's a bad thing. I think having 2 non classic character isn't that big of a deal if you pick the right ones if one of them is someone like Sakura or something, someone that's popular, or has extra exposure in games like Marvel vs. Capcom series etc..

Also case ratios are gonna be important, this is most likely a collector focused line. So I would think it should be evenly packed similar to the way the Simpsons is treated. If it has to be something like 12 figs per case then something like 3 Ryu, 3 Chun Li and 2 of everyone else sounds right. Anyways, I'm sure you guys know what you're doing, I'm just a fan who wants to see this line be all it can be =) Sorry for the rant, but when Nomad said that SOTA reads the comments I had to say my deal. thanks.

    i think the obscure characters will b great. lets us move closer to get every street fighter possible

    Sodom looks great! Cant see his face that clearly, but what I can see it looks impressive. I can't wait to see Chun Li because I really want to see how well they can make the female figures. That will be the test. They have to be kickass fighters but also really hot looking figures. The faces have to be done just right and not ugly.But seeing so far what sota can pull off,I dont doubt them for one minute. I,of course,will collect 2 of each street fighter they come out with,and I already have three of my friends that are going to collect all of them as well,as I keep spreading the word. I know you guys listen and that means this line will be successful. So I put my 10 favorite fighters that I call my dream line up I really want to be made.

    I looooove this line and I've only seen three figures so far!

    I can't wait to see more! I just hope they don't make Remy or Necro anytime soon. Those characters were wimpy compared with the others in SF3. Even Alex looked like a sissy.

    Dan can wait for series 426 or 897. I never met anybody that could beat another human player with him, plus he was the most unbalanced character in SF history!

    does anyone know the price point of these or the retailers? i've never seen the tomb raider figures anywhere so i'm hoping i'll be able to find these. Has anyone asked if www.voyagertoys.com will be carrying these. they're the only toystore likly to carry this stuff in houston and they're usually pretty good about getting this kind of cool stuff.

    I'm just going to rave on and on about these things, so don't mind me.

    I guess it is kind of obvious what accessory he needs:
    his Sais!
    but in his Final Fight/early alpha days, he had small swords... both maybe?

    Another accessory could be the latern (or was it a sake jug? I don't remember - memory foggy :p) he had on the victory screen.

    I not the expert Dare is, but those would seem most appropriate given the character.

    I'm so happy, oh so happy, happy- wasted (wait, how'd that song go again :D )

    I would buy most of the color variants (like with the ReSaurus line, I bought mostly the P2 colors because I am a freak). But the iconic colors are probably the best thing to stick with overall.

    And Dan is a MUST.

    I wanted to comment on why we are doing what we are doing with Street Fighter in terms of the characters we are picking.

    The reason most lines dont last past 3 or 4 is because they 'use up' the main characters and then are left with solid lines of "C" level characters and maybe a stupid 'toxic green' repaint. Our plan for Street Fighter is to get to at least 10 lines and the only way to do that is to pick 2 'A' characters, 2"B' characters and 1'C' character per line. Hey, I could be wrong but thats our game plan. Look at it this way..if you are a Street Fighter fanatic you will now have access to characters you NEVER imagined would see the light of PVC. If you are just interested in the main characters then you only have to pick up a couple figures per line which makes it very affordable. Its a win-win.

    As for case packs the first line is 2 solid sets and two extra Ryu.

    We will not be packing in Player 2 colors regularly. Some retailers want some kind of exclusive so you probably will see them at some point but its not a regular thing.

    We're also not going to do something like make Evil Ryu and only pack him 1 per 10 cases or something stupid like that. If collectors cant find the figures they want within reason thats the quickest way to kill a line.

    I really appreciate everyone taking the time to give input and advice.

    Wow! Sodom looks really cool! That's one character that I'm not one to play much in Street Fighter Alpha, but the toy design makes me want to buy him right up!

    I really like the idea of extra head(s)! That way you can have one face that is showing expression (like Sagat's) or another face that is neutral or emotionless (good for characters like Ryu and Sagat).

    Sodom doesn't have sais like some think. He has jitai in SFA, SFA2, SFA3, and katannas in SFA3 (X-Ism) and Final Fight. I think he should come with the jitai if he is only to come with one. Though katannas would be cool as an extra.

    I don't think 2 player colors are a good idea either. Though I love the 2 player colors, a lot of people didn't buy them for Resaurus' figures, and I don't know how well they would sell know. If they do make 2 player colors they should be packed less than 1 player colors. Everyone would buy the 1 player colors in the old line first, and then some people would buy both.

    Now color variants that are warranted I think would be things like Satsu no Hado (Evil) Ryu (though I think he should have a new head), Shin Akuma (in purple), Shadow Charlie (darker colors with tampo-stamped Shadowloo emblem on his back). There are some others, but most are from the Marvel vs Capcom series.

    The best thing that could be done to take these figures to the next level would be a base that supports the characters in a pose of their most famous move. For instance a spiralling flaming dragon that Ken can be mounted on in a uppercut position. Or a clear plastic base that resembles wind swirling around Ryu as he does the whirlwind kick. I believe this would apeal topeople who like to just put their figures on a shelf and those that like to re-pose their figures.

    I'm going to offer to do the same thing that I said i would do if Palisade's had kept the license. I'm a pretty obsessive Capcom fighting game nut, and I have a sizable library of official art, artbooks, scans, doujins, japanese figures and the like. If you guys need any pictorial refs (I'm sure Capcom and Udon already filled you in good) or names of obscure characters, I'll do my best to help. :-3

    I'm always excited when a new Capcom toyline starts up.

    Wow. Where do I begin? Ok first off, I would like to congratulate SOTA for some pretty awesome toys of the SF cast. You guys seem to have blended good sculpt and generous articulation perfectly with no preposes. Now that's something that other SF toymakers have never done. I have to say that the toys that came out of SF since its debut from the arcades have been lack luster, and that was more than ten years ago!! SOTA is about to break that curse. I'm already set for buying the series, and I've yet to see my two favs, Ryu and Chun Li!! Seeing these two will make my final judgement on the line. Like someone else said, the test will be how Chun Li looks.

    Ok, here goes some more questions. What stores will be carrying these? Any major market retailers? Are there any online stores outside of Cali who will be taking preorders? I'd like to preorder an entire case assortment and avoid the tax, but I dont' mind paying the shipping. Is the 12.99 price range a definite? What is the scheduled release date? These are my main questions.

    Ok some more comments and questions about the figures themselves. First and foremost, is Chun Li going to have a normal lower half or is she going to have a really thick pair of thunder thighs? Sorry. Had to ask. Also, what kind of hands will Ryu have? I'd imagine he'd have one set for fists and another for the Hadouken pose. Also, will Ryu have those small japanese characters on the inside of his black belt as some artist draw him? Will SOTA consider releasing some type of base for the action figures later? When can we expect hints for the next wave? What is the waiting period for each wave?

    I agree what most people are saying about avoiding the 2 player colors but not averse to ones lke Evil Ryu who are plausible. Also, I hope they avoid anyone from the EX series until they get everything from the regular SF and Alpha lines finished.

    My apoogies for asking too much but its just that I'm really excited about this wave. I like how SOTA is not going to make it hard for collectors to get the main versions of the figures. Kudos!! I don't mind that for 2player colors for stores who want exclusives since I would not care for secondary colors anyway.

    My vote for the second wave would be Ken and Cammy for normal, Zangief and Balrog for the tall ones, and Guy for the obscure.

    Third wave would be Gouki(Akuma) and Sakura for normal, Honda and Blanka for big, and Dan for obscure.

    Aww heck, I just hope all of them get done for the sake of the fans getting a complete collection.

    Anyways, again, thank you SOTA for something that was long overdue and I hope this line becomes the success it deserves to be. Many thanks Nomad for the news as well.

    Thanks SOTA, I mentioned Grappler Baki because the Japanese company that made them (sorry, forgot who!) had a very good concept for articulating the hips that I haven't seen used before or since.

    It's basically a cut joint in an old style with 2 points articulation at the very top of the thighs - a swivel as to be expected and a joint to move the legs outwards and inwards.

    The result is that the bottom and hips don't disappear into a ball joint - like TB's Spiderman and Blade. The sculpt also looks more cohesive. Another benefit is that the movement becomes more realistic, forcing the legs and pose only into positions that the human can do.

    Anyway, it's worth looking at.

    Of course, the downside to the Grappler Baki figures (ones that I have anyway) is that their joints are so loose but I know that's something that SOTA doesn't want to see happening.

    One final question (I promise!):

    How will you be doing the clothes on your figures? For instance, take Ryu for example, are you planning to have his gi in the sculpt itself, or will it be a material of some kind (cloth, rubber or plastic)?

    Of course things like trousers and shorts are always sculpted in, but I'm talking mainly about upper clothes.

    like i said earlier i think its sooo awesome what u guys are doin for us fans but i was just wanderin if we could maybe see a better pic of bison or maybe a pic with the full bodies of the characters already shown maybe standing together....i know that we will see chun li and ryu soon so im not pressing on them, but a group shot of whos already shown would be cool.....also just an opinion but please stay true to the anime roots of street fighter and dont get too realistic....the figures so far look sooo incredibly awesome just cant wait to see chun li and ryu...thanks sota
