You voted for them, we counted them, and we now announce them, as we bring you the results of the Fan Choice Second Series of Streetfighter...

Unless you've been living in a hole, you'll know that SOTA graciously allowed our readers to select the figures that would make up series 2.

OK, so we had literally thousands of votes (probably our most successful email-in ever). They have been counted and double-checked. Jerry at SOTA has just been told. Nomad still doesn't know.

Some of you agonised over your choices, choosing figures that made commercial sense over ones you personally wanted. Some allowed yourself one selfish choice amongst all the categories. Some just went for the figures they personally wanted.

So here are the results:
Category 1
Akuma 41.69%
Vega 42.30%
Adon 7.55%
Rolento 8.46%
WINNER: VEGA

Category 2
Cammy 50.45%
Sakura 20.24%
Ibuki 16.01%
Rose 13.29%
WINNER: CAMMY

Category 3
Blanka 43.47%
Balrog 12.16%
Zangrief 27.05%
Dhalsim 17.33%
WINNER: BLANKA

Category 4
Birdie 24.92%
T Hawk 44.98%
Dudley 16.11%
Oro 13.98%
Winner: T HAWK

So look for Vega, Cammy, Blanka and T Hawk to join Ken in Series 2. And remember this is the line that you guys chose, so be sure to do everything you can to make this the most successful series it can be. That way, maybe more companies might listen to you guys.

And of course, BIG thanks to SOTA for allowing the fans lose on Series 2. Without their faith in you, this would never have happened.

I'm really glad that Vega beat out Akuma, I think alot of fans realized it would be better to save him for later. So when do we get to vote for Series 3? =)

Great lineup, but not one of those is who I picked. Hopefully we see Sakura and Zangief in series 3.People just want to see the most popular characters I see,so it will be hard to get characters like Oro,Gen and Elena in a series that we vote on until later on down the line.

Booya!!

100% !

I'm pleased with Vega and Blanka, but in retrospect I would have changed Cammy to Ibuki for an SF3 figure, and T.Hawk to Birdie for another Alpha figure. As it stands, out of 10 so far, only 1 is a non-SF2 generation character.

Oh well, no matter. It is a GREAT line-up.

So... these are coming around october. We should be seeing pictures just before or after the first series is released. (but hopefully next week!)

Wow! Its so great that SOTA gave the fans the choice of the lineup. I'm very pleased with it myself. I'm especially glad that Vega beat Akuma. Save Akuma for Wave 3 is my opinion. Though I think Vega is a cooler character. I hope that Sakura, Balrog, and Birdie make it to another Wave.

I didn't manage to vote...but I am SO happy that Cammy won...and really happy that Vega pulled ahead of Akuma, as well.

I've never been a T. Hawk fan, but I think it is cool that he will finally get a figure.

Aww!

I only voted for Cammy & Blanka out of any of these. Personally I think it wasn't fair to put Blanka against Zangief or Dhalsim. I'd buy all 3 of them over Ken or T Hawk.
And since Vega barely beat out Akuma, wouldn't it be fair to do like Hasbro and go ahead & make both of them?

[color=blue]I have to say I'm a little let down... no obscuer characters in the mix.

There really isn't any character I won't buy, and I'll buy everything in this wave, but I was kinda hoping for at least like one obscuer dude like Sodom, to win a catagorey. I guess to make a parrelel it'd be like getting the jim lee x-men team for a whole wave of ML, yes there popular and you expect them and you'll buy them but theres no little surprise curveball to make things interesting.

I guess T-hawk is kinda obscuer, but He's down there with Gill characterwise for me as characters i don't really care about. I'll still get him cause he fills out the SF2 family, and i get everything anyway... but I was really hoping Birdie would win that catgorey he's so much cooler, or even Oro... ever since i saw Phil Ramirez's Oro in toyfare I always wanted one of my own.

I have to say I'm totally dumbstruck that Akuma didn't win, He's so obnoxiously popular, I figured he'd be a shoe in. But I do think it's for the best he be held off for series 3, so we only have one shotoclone per wave and it'll give series 3 allot more strength.

I voted for Vega and T. Hawk!

TEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE HAAAAAAAAAAAWWWK!!!

I am really happy to see Blanka and Cammy but I think that maybe for series three SOTA should choose the 'headliner' and also an obscure character like Oro or Dudley. That way fans can choose among three rosters and prevent from milking out the line too fast.

Blanka is my favorite character but I was willing to wait until series 4 or 5 to get him.

Nevertheless...

BLAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNKAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

    height concern

    by hellhound on Mar 24, 2004 - 06:49 AM
    (User information  | Send a message http://)
Hi SOTA. I am a big fan of street fighter. I am concerned about the height of each figure. SAGAT's height is 7 feet tall but he is not the tallest street fighter. The 2nd tallest street fighter is T.HAWK who stands at 7.4 feet. (not including the height of the feather on his head) Since T. Hawk was selected for series 2 then will this height detail be considered? I suggest making hawk half a head taller than sagat. Just to note that HUGO is the tallest character. He stands at a whopping 7.7 or even 8 feet tall. (see the video game SNK vs CAPCOM: CHAOS as reference over how hugo just dwarfs all the other characters) Thank you SOTA for making all street fighter fans dreams come true. Hellhound

    where are SODOM's weapons?

    by hellhound on Mar 24, 2004 - 07:11 AM
    (User information  | Send a message http://)
Hey SOTA I was just wondering. We have all seen images of SODOM but so far there are no signs of his weapons.

Where are his katana's and half sai like weapons (I know they are not really sai's) I see no holes in his hand to slip them in. Do you plan to have removable hands? One with and one without weapons? I hope not. I would prefer to install his weapon's through spaces between his fingers. Just like the new he-man toys.

Please include his weapons because that's what makes sodom, sodom. How can a crazy wannabe samuari be a samurai without his weapons? Please take this into consideration and thanks for listening.

    Hi SOTA

I was just looking at your homepage and I saw the action figures of your playboy collection. I was thinking that it would be soo cool if you gave hugo's manager POISON a similar kind of body.

Poison is different from all the other street fighter girls. She is not a tom-boy like makoto, or muscular like elena. She is all about looking good. Although we are all given the impression that she can kick but, we still have not seen that happen yet. She looks like the type that does more damage with her mouth (through argueing) then with her fists.

I would love to have an action figure of HUGO but I also know that there is concern of him not selling. Therefore I suggest that POISON should be included in the package. Besides, isn't that what managers do for wrestler's? They market their client to the entire world. HUGO would be like the BIG SHOW and POISON would be like STACY KEIBLER if compared to the WWE.

I think you guys are doing an excellent job and I appreciate all the hard work that all of you are doing. With the comic out, SF3 coming to PS2, and now your line of figures this marks the year of the street fighter. (Capcom, if ever you were to release SF4 now would be a good time) Keep up the good work and if anyone is against street fighter well then they can just kiss my HADOUKEN.

rolento deserves another chance for series 3

    by hellhound on Mar 27, 2004 - 11:02 PM
    (User information  | Send a message http://)
My favourite character is ROLENTO. I am happy that he was one of the options in the opinion polls but there is no way he could stand a chance against vega and akuma.

I don't know if people are not familiar with this character but I was hoping he would receive more than 8% of votes. Sodom must be making fun of Rolento right about now.

Here is my strategy to convince all of you to vote for him in series 3.

First of all look at his character personality. He is a master strategist and an expert in war games. Other characters depend on their strength, speed, or magic but ROLENTO depends on his mind.
If ever there was a character to promote brains over brawn it would be rolento.

Second, think of all the weapons that he would come with. This would add extra features over any shotokhan warrior (ryu, ken, sean, sakura, akuma, etc,,,,) For example he would have 4 grenades that can hook on to his chest and back like a keychain. Plus he would have his stinger daggers. Also don't forget his baton. I suggest putting small notches in his baton where the daggers can fit inside. That way it gives the optical illusion that he is balancing the dagger on his baton. This would immitate his super move steele rain.

I think the advantage that obscure characters have are the little props that come with them. For example T. Hawk can come with his pet bird, Hugo can come with manager poison, birdie and his chain, etc...

In the end I would want all of the characters to be made but ROLENTO would be my first person of choice

"don't be shy by the sound of my voice. Here comes my new weapon, weapon of choice"

    overstock theory

    by hellhound on Mar 30, 2004 - 06:39 AM
    (User information  | Send a message http://)
One of the main concerns of making street fighter toys is the fear of having an overstock of unsold characters. This will mainly happen to obscure characters then to popular ones. I talked to a comic book shop owner and he explained the problems that happend with the resaurus line.

First of all store owners order their shipment by box. When they receive the box they have no idea what characters are inside. He told me that when he opened the box there was 1 ken, 1 ryu, 2, cammy, 2 blanka, and 2 alex. Before the toys can even be put on the shelves the workers in the store get first pick on buying them. Sometimes the comic store is not even able to put it on the shelves because the workers in the store have already bought what they wanted.

second, because there is only one of ryu and ken in each shipment, and so many of the other characters, that each time they order for more their amount of obscure figures begin to pile up. Piled up characters have been given the phrase peg warmers.

Don't forget that resaurus also had player 2 toys which doubled the number of overstock.
Store owners reach a point where they will no longer order for more shipment until they sell all their overstock.

I think that an overstock is only momentary because if you try to search for resaurus figures now, you would have a really tough time.

SOTA can you please tell me if this situation is true and if it is then what are some solutions to prevent this from happening.

I believe that we can learn from resaurus' mistakes and make SOTA's line of figures the best that it can be. I have faith in all of you guys and you have my support

    Dear SOTA

One of the stores that supported resaurus figures was EB (electronic boutique)
I think EB has branches all over the US and Canada.
Do you think that they will carry your new street fighter line up? I think they will because they found resaurus figures to be popular. So when you tell them that your figures have 30 points of articulation well they must say yes. This is just my suggestion. You guys probably have a better idea up your sleeve.

    Articulation

    by hellhound on Mar 31, 2004 - 06:05 AM
    (User information  | Send a message http://)
Enough talk about the 30 points of articulation. I know most of you collectors out there won't even take them out of the box! Anyway, if you pose them too much the articulated joints will get loose and then you'll end up with a spineless streetfighter.

I think it would be cool if SOTA made two packs featuring characters like Ryu and Ken , Guile and Nash and so on . I would like to see other characters like Rolento , Sakura , Adon , R. Mika , Zangief , Guy , E. Honda , Balrog , Cody , and Akuma just to name a few :) But I realy hope they put Guile and Nash in wave 3 .

    obscurity solution

    by hellhound on Apr 09, 2004 - 07:11 AM
    (User information  | Send a message http://)
According to my calculations there is a total of 50 street fighter characters. That means that your series has to reach up to 10 in order to complete each character. (If ML can reach series 6,and simpson can reach series 12 then I think you guys can do the same too)

One of the things that I think is trying to be avoided is a series full of obscure characters. For me I would not care because I plan to collect them all, but for a company, this may be an issue. (basic economics: demand and supply) By having variant characters this solves the problem.

Characters like evil ryu, alpha costume chun li, shadowloo costume cammy, shin akuma, alpha ryu (with white headband), alpha ken (with pony tail), agent shadow (evil charlie), black zangief, and dark sakura. These characters are what I call VARIANTS.

By including variants in your series line-up, it helps to keep the series interesting. Look at the simpson toys. They have obscure characters like fat tony, grounds keeper wily, otto the foreign exchange student, etc... but playmates also included variants of the simpson family like baseball fan homer, sunday best bart, police officer marge,etc.. I do not know if this helpped playmates but this was what they thought of (along with other toy companies)

I think you should use variant characters as trump cards. To include them in the series whenever you think there might be too many obscure characters in a line-up.

    What do you think?

    SOTA beware, toybiz rising

    by hellhound on Apr 09, 2004 - 08:25 PM
    (User information  | Send a message http://)
Hi SOTA, first off let me just say that I think you guys are doing an excellent job. However, I am concerned with the future competition that is trying to eclipse your street fighter products.

Marvel Legends just announced there new line of figures which puts the series at # 8. Not only are their new marvel legends toys but there are also spider-man 2 toys (for the movie), Punisher toys (for the movie), x-men classic, x-men from the cartoon series, and I think a non-movie spider-man theme coming in the horizon.

In business warfare we call it "crowding out" it is the strategy of putting so many products by one company (like toybiz) that there are no more space for other companies to display their products. Do you see this as a problem?

Just to note high dreams is also coming and there are still leftovers of marvel legend toys from past series, and the horrible hulk toys still floating around.

The space is limited and the competition is fierce. SOTA has to come out on top because I believe their street fighter toy line is the only one that can stand up to marvel legends.

I can't believe that Birdie beated Dudley in category 4. In the arcades alot of people choose dudley and they all reach a winning streak to at least 10. Fighting an opponent who chooses dudley is really hard to defeat. (if in the right hands)

Characters that I thought would get close to zero votes still received a pretty high percentage vote. That just shows that there are many different kinds of fans with their own special favourite characters.

    marketing

    Hey SOTA,

I just saw your street fighter figures in the recent toyfare magazine. They look amazing and now it has the proper marketing it deserves.

I was so happy to read on paper that SOTA plans to make every character in the street fighter universe. (I wonder if that involves the EX series. Personally I don't think the EX series is part of the SF universe) That should make every SF fan happy. I know I am.

Do you plan to market your product anywhere else? I know that the up-coming issue of street fighter the comic (#7) will be a double size issue. That would be the perfect place to post commercials for your figures.

As for the pictures that was displayed in toyfare. Is that the look of the final product or has the look changed since last you took the pictures? I read from old postings that there are alternative heads, removable hands, and Sodom Weapons. Is all this true or just wishfull thinking?

Thanks SOTA and keep up the good work.

YEAH!!!! VEGA! VEGA! VEGA! VEGA! VEGA! VEGA!

not bad : ) half the ppl i voted for won (Vega & Cammy) I voted for Dhalsim for the 3rd figure and Birdie for the 4th but i dont really care to much. as long as vega, cammy, vega, ken, and vega are in im good. oh - and im also very happy vega won.

cant wait for their relese! or at least some pics of vega and cammy to quench my thirst.

i hope they do Vega with black pants with the yellow stripe and red sash and gray snake tatoo and a silver mask and sandy blonde hair - like the player 2 resaurus figure. perfect color scheme - thats the outfit i always play as him in. also i hope they make his claw removable and i think it would be a good idea to make 2 diferent head sculpts - one with the mask / one without the mask, and make them interchangeable. i feel this is better than making a removable mask because it will look better than having to make it so the mask comes on and off - the resaurus figures mask just didnt fit right and looked a little weird when on him.

Thanke you so much Sota for giving us the opportunity to effect how the figures turn out - you listened to comments regaurding series one and even let us choose vega (and the others) for series 2 - you guys are truly a company of the people. the riddick figures look great to - i see Sota rising to the top of the collectible figure market in no time.
