We've got plenty of Turtles Coverage upcoming, but we wanted to show you these concept drawings of a possible upcoming Skuba wave that Playmates shared with us...

Whilst the majority of the 2004 Turtles on display we'd already shown you as part of our 2004 preview, we've got a few US ToyFair articles coming up.

But something we've not shown you, which Playmates kindly let us share with you guys, is this concept art for an upcoming series they;re working on.

Now Playmates fully expects collectors not to like this wave, but I told Playmates that I seriously think they underestimate how much they do right. Playmates told us that whilst they except that Turtles in scuba gear could be considered a bit redundant, they are trying to come up with new ways to include the main 4 heroes. This prompted a long discussion regarding amphibians and how if the Turtles wanted to stay underwater for a long period of time, scuba gear could be necessary.

So what have we got here:
Skuba Donatello comes with a trident spear and what appears to be 3" Stingray. His visor is has a clear lense and flips up. His swim fins come off and it makes mention of shoulder and wrist pivots

Skuba Michaelangelo comes with 4" squid and removable swim fins and a knife that may go into a leg sheath. The mask flips up..clear lens again and ball jointed shoulders are mentioned on the concept drawing. as well as wrist pivots. he comes with a water craft propulsion jet device with firing torpedo.

Skuba Raphael may come with a 4" octopus. He'll feature Flip up visor with a clear lens and again it mentions Shoulder and wrist articulation specifically (these all seem to have standard articulation as well, just these items are specifically mentioned). His underwater camera light will have an action feature labelled "finger flick darts". You'll also be able to tilt the rotors on the propultion back pack and play with his removable sais/knives.

Finally Skuba Leonardo also features Flip up mask with clear lens as well as a removable swim fins. On the articulation front, ball jointed shoulders and wrist swivels are mentioned on the concept drawing. he'll also come with a working spear gun, which works similar to a crossbow and a 4" attack shark.

As always, these things are subject to change, and I honestly would expect to see these in stores until late this year at the very earliest. Playmates has a lot of Turtles figures lined up for 2004, so fitting in another wave would be difficult.

ehh. A little indifferent, but they have been doing great about including other characters in this line, so no complaints... well just one. I would dig up super-articulated turtles. The battle armor ones were close, but not quite there yet.

i cant stand these things, god i hate all of these dumb turtles, i got the 1st 4 and then got the battle armor ones, but thats it, i dont want space hopin, skate boarding, scuba or cowboy turtles. I remember playmates saying the would only make turtles that make sense and fit in with the cartoon, so what the hell is up with these?

It will make sense, as there's an upcoming episode entitled 'Junklantis' that may see these sort of variants of the turtles. Also note that the people that promised that they would only make TMNT variants that make sense, no longer work on the line. :)

These look kinda cool, if they had MUTANT sea-creatures with them, then that would be awesome. The old toyline kicked arse because of it's crazy amount of secondary characters. I'm sorry, a mutant Snake-guy with 3 snakes for an arm & a poseable tail as it's legs is just freakin' cool, I don't care WHO you are. :-)

Really? Ouch, wonder how that went down....:

"Yes, we promise to only make variants that make sense & nothing stupid like in the old line."

::guys come & take them away, leaving new guys in their place::

"Yep, all crazy variants. Stay tuned for Space-Cowboy-Vampire-Barbarian-Turtles with self exploding action as they contridict themselves into oblivion! :-D"

Crazy toy companies & their variant obbseive behavior.. ;-)

*Note to self: Make toy company & a line of figure- exclude all variants in every way, shape or form.*
