Mezco: Warriors Unleashed!

Mezco sends over news that they've just released pictures of their figure line based on The Warriors! This cult classic has deserved toys for years now...

Mezco Toyz, the “koolectible toy company” announces it has acquired the rights to the Paramount cult movie classic “The Warriors”. In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the movie, some very exciting things are happening with this license. Mezco Toyz will create a five-figure assortment of some very cool action figures, these figures rock dead-on likeness, plenty of “attitude articulation” and tons of accessories. The figures will be packaged in a stylish and collector friendly clamshell package that can be J hooked or shelf displayed. Famed video game developer, Rock Star Games, will be releasing a hot new video game based on the same property. Both the figures and video game are slated for release in Spring 2005.

The Warriors storyline takes place at night, underground, in the sub-culture of gang warfare that rages from Coney Island to Manhattan to the Bronx. Filled with tons of action, vibrant characters and timeless attitude. The movie will translate perfectly into some of 2005’s hottest action figures and a rockin’ video game.

The product line up is as follows for series 1:

Swan: Affiliation- Warriors. Rank- War chief. Accessories- Bowie knife, Switchblade, lead pipe and spray can.

Cleon: Affiliation- Warriors. Rank- War chief. Accessories- Nunchucks, rumble chain and spray can.

Cochise: Affiliation- Warriors. Rank- soldier. Accessories- Molotov cocktail, wooden board with nails and spray can.

Baseball Fury: Affiliation- Baseball Furies. Rank- unknown. Accessories- baseball bat and broken baseball bat.

Luther: Affiliation- Rogues. Rank- Unknown. Accessories- handgun, broken bottle and alternate hand with bottles on fingers (from famous end of movie scene).

Of those three people, one of them MIGHT be a toy collector.

If they make too many more crappy lines like this they'll be following Art Asylum down the Great Crapper.

I'm probably the only one here who digs Mezco any more, and I like that they choose properties that other companies wouldn't. If it weren't for them, I'd have no Reservoir Dogs figures, no Blues Brothers, no Scarface, etc.

While I don't really like these figures, I can't fault Mezco for tying to make something different.

Mezco's figures are hardly crap. They may not be characters that you are interested in but that doesn't make them instantly worthless. You aren't the center of the universe. The Blues Brothers figures, Animal House figures, Scarface figures and now these are extremely cool charicatures of the characters. Did I buy any of them or will I buy these? No, because I don't care about the characters and I generally like realistic representations of characters, but it doesn't change the fact that these are well done.

Hand on heart the Warriors is one of my favourite movies I even have it on video. I was so looking forward to this line. I was even on the virge of pre-ordering the first series I am sure I read that these guys were going to be realistic looking like Helboy and not a caricature series like the Scarface line.
Now I am just left gutted at the direction Mezco have taken with this line. I presume this style has a fan base personally I loathe it.

Have any of you actually [i]seen[/i] the movie?

The Warrirors is a very cool action film with a unique surreal style courtesy of director Walter Hill. You can buy the DVD for, like, five bucks at Wal-Mart.

As for the figures, yeah I'm pretty disappointed that they're done in that same silly cartoon style Mezco seems content on doing these days.
Like others have said, they nailed the Hellboy line, so why they continue to do this style of sculpting is beyond me. But I'll still pick these up.

Remember guys, everyone's tastes differ. I'm sure people in the mainstream world are probably laughing at people like us for falling over ourselves for toys of 20+ year old comic book characters.

Yeesh...did they have a sale on the word crap today? I swear some of you guys are just looking for things to bag on lately. There are pleanty of people out there who love the Warriors and I guarantee you there will be people buying these that have never bought a toy before.

I, for one, love that Mezco is doing the Warriors. I'm not too crazy about the style they are sculpted in, but I will definitely be picking them up because the likelyhood of any other company doing them is none.
As far as people complaining; I don't want Fight Club or Pulp Fiction figures, but doesn't mean they shouldn't be made. I ain't buying them. They can clutter the clearance bins for all I care (sarcasm).

Damn Mezco Damn them!!! I mean who do they think they are? Making figures that nobody will buy, even though Rockstar games is creating a video game based on this very property which will more than likely create a new fanbase. A fanbase that may very well want to pick some of these figures up!!!

Geesh, some of you have sniffed way too much PVC.

I'm not crazy about the movie but I would have bought a couple of these if they were realistic.

The cartoony look kills them for me.

I haven't seen this movie for twenty years, and I never imagined someone would make figures from it NOW.

Though they're not really my thing, I can respect Mezco for blindsiding us with things we never expect, it really sets them apart in the industry.

These are some good representations of the characters from the movie, considering they couldn't just computer scan the actors!

I wish them luck with this line.

I first have to say that I do not appreciate Nomad giving anyone crap for their opinion. Excuse some of us if we complain about some toys we do not particularily find satisfactory. We are not getting paid nor do we have to limit are criticism due to not wanting to anger people in the industry. If you would like to keep a rosey opinion Nomad then go right ahead. You are as entitled to that one as I am to this one.

These toys are horrible. This movie deserved figures as realistic as Hellboy. Yet again, Mez, the man without enough gahones to produce a Liz Sherman movie figure (but dumb enough to produce another Abe Sapien), decides to make pathetic figures not even Shaq, number 1 THE WARRIORS, fan would want to buy. Luckily for Shaq; he will probably get them for free.

Not only have Mezco p****d upon Scarface and the Blues Brothers with their pathetic cartoony figures. Now they have truly defecated upon a property that someone like Toddy Mac would have treated with more respect.

If they did not have Hellboy. I would not mind taking every one of their toys and wiping my *** with them. What a pathetic joke of a toy company.

Mezco make figures no-one buy ???

I beg your pardon...

FAMILY GUY and HELLBOY have been two of the biggest selling lines I have had in my store in the past year..

My friend does HUGE numbers of living dead dolls and Mez its are a sure fire hit..

I am sure this line will have its followers and there are toys for everyone. Ok so you dont like em.. Dont buy em then.. but there will be people out there who will want them.

If every company made your wish list and released them in the same month you'd still complain as you would have too choose. !

Please be respectful in your coments and compliment them an then say they aint for me thou..
