Spawn Series 24 - Hellspawn i.001

McFarlane ( 2003)

This figure is based on one of the best looking Spawn covers ever. It depicts Spawn holding a bigass gun and looking pretty evil. It was a definitely an eye-catching cover and I'm glad they made a figure based on it.

Sculpt: Wow, very nice. They've managed to create an incredible sculpt from an image that probably wasn't meant to be made into a figure in the first place. He looks like he jumped straight out of the cover! The figure comes in six separate pieces. The main Spawn figure, his gun, the base and three sections of his cape that connect together to form one whole thing. There's no instruction manual so you'll need to fiddle around with the cape and the gun to make it look just like the image on the box. Once assembled, we've got one badass looking figure. There are plenty of details with the Spawn figure itself. They even sculpted the markings on his back even though you won't see it once it's assembled. The gun is equally impressive. It looks just like the gun on the cover. It has one small moving handle where Spawn holds the gun. The cape is quite dynamic. The edge of the cape shoots out in every which way. It was a little troublesome trying to make it stay on his back but once its in place, it looks great. They even sculpted his feet which isn't even visible on the actual cover. Nice touch. Spawn doesn't stay on his base too well since the pegs are a little small but there's no problems with it. There's almost no articulation. You can only move his left arm up and down and rotate his left wrist a little. It's still a nice looking figure.

Paint: Every bit as impressive as the sculpt. It has the same dirty messy look as the painting. They actually tried to copy the cover's colors and they've succeeded. Nice shades of copper on the right arm and leg. The white on the mask and chest are pretty clean and the dirty grays and blacks work really well. There's a good amount of details here. A nice edgy look.

Overall: Awesome looking figure. If you loved the cover than this figure won't disappoint. A must-have for any Spawn collector.

Finally was able to get into the Spawn Store (Must have been having server trouble all day or something) and saw the photos of the exclusive on their website. From what is pictured, it is indeed the 10th Anniv. Spawn with the Hamburger head, a new cape and base. I was going to get this until I saw it came with the Hamburger Head. Now I'm going to pass!
